SALES NEWS :- Ombudsman service launched to resolve problems with new homes
A New Homes Ombudsman is being launched to arbitrate on any problems with new-build houses and apartments. The government will flesh out details later this year but we know so far:
- the Ombudsman will review complaints from buyers;
- there will be compensation offered in some cases;
- developers will be reviewed annually to assess quality of their homes.
There are already Ombudsman schemes covering the house sales and rental sectors, which all estate and letting agencies must join. These give sellers, buyers, landlords and tenants consumer protection in terms of the quality of service they receive from agents.
