NEWS: Improved rail links set to attract more movers into Exeter and east Devon
Train services around parts of east Devon and between Exeter and London are to get a shot in the arm from increased investment by South West Trains.
The company operates local services between Devon communities including Exeter, the new town of Cranbrook, and Honiton, using trains which then go on directly to Waterloo: these services are a significant draw for many house buyers moving into the region.
By 2019 the train company will take delivery of new ‘Class 707’ trains which will not only be more comfortable and reliable, but will also have increased capacity. SWT says this should allow 30 per cent additional seating on some services during peak times.
Exeter and east Devon already have the benefit of a second train operator. Great Western Railways runs the highly-successful services from Exmouth, through Topsham and Exeter and then on to north Devon. It also operates the fast direct services from Exeter St Davids to London Paddington.
