Law Society’s planned e-conveyancing portal could introduce paperless transactions

The Law Society has announced plans for the introduction of an e-conveyancing portal which would handle all residential property transactions in England and Wales online. Planned for next year, if successful, the portal will enable all parties to a transaction – including lawyers, estate agents, sellers and buyers – to view documentation and check up-to-date progress in a secure online ‘deal room’ accessible from a smartphone or tablet. Desmond Hudson, Chief Executive of the Law Society, said that moving online should ‘save time and avoid the costs created by traditional paper-based approaches.’
