LETTINGS NEWS: Landlords back role of letting agents in handling tenant issues

25/09/15

A survey of 500 landlords suggests that the substantial majority of them want letting agents to handle routine property management and particularly any complaints.

The results of the survey, conducted by an online property company during August, show that over 85 per cent of landlords don’t want to deal directly with tenants about any issue, and 90 per cent are unhappy about tenants calling or emailing them directly with problems.

The reasons given for being ‘arms length’ from renters include the challenge many working landlords would face responding promptly, the complexity of keeping up to date with frequently-changing private rental regulations and laws, and the practical difficulty of dealing with problems if the landlord lives some distance from a property being let out.
