LETTINGS NEWS:- Private rental tenancies set to get longer


It looks increasingly likely that the typical length of tenancies in the private rental sector will become longer. The government has issued a consultation document which proposes:

  • landlords and letting agents offer three year tenancies;
  • a ‘break clause’ will allow tenant or landlord to stop after six month
  • tenancies for students may be exempted from the three-year duration

The aim of the change is to make tenants feel more secure in their home, and to encourage more families to rent.
