LETTINGS NEWS: To furnish or not to furnish
Recent research by Countrywide shows that there is an 8.1% premium for a furnished flat in towns and cities with a younger population of renters. It seems young professionals who have yet to establish families are more willing to pay for furniture to be provided. The premium for a furnished property typically equates to an additional £53 per month for a flat and £15 per month for a house.
The research also shows that furnished properties command a premium in seaside towns with a typically higher percentage of elderly people. As more retirees sell up their family home to release capital and/or help finance their children’s first steps onto the property ladder, there are a bigger proportion of over 60s now looking to rent properties in move-in condition.
