LOCAL NEWS: Exeter Airport makes our area better-connected than ever befor
One of the biggest attractions of moving to Exeter and East Devon in recent years has been dramatic improvements in transport links with the rest of the UK and internationally – indirectly, this helps keep local housing markets strong, too.
Now Exeter Airport has seen an eight per cent increase in passenger numbers in 2016 – the fourth successive year that business has grown at the airport – with the promise of many more services in the next 12 months.
Figures from the Civil Aviation Authority show there were almost 850,000 passengers in 2016. The biggest growth areas being more business travellers using the daily flights to London City airport, and a big rise in November and December volumes using the new ‘winter sun’ routes to Alicante and malaga in Spain.
From the end of March the number of flights direct between Exeter and Manchester each weekday will rise from three to four; at Manchester there are ‘easy transfer’ connections made with long-haul international flights. During the summer there will also be an increase in flights to Spanish destinations.
