NEWS: Infrastructure improvements give further boosts to Exeter and East Devon
Improved leisure and telecommunications facilities have consolidated our area’s reputation as one of the most go-ahead in the country.
Consent has at last been given to a £75m redevelopment of Exeter’s bus and coach station site. It will become a leisure centre with two swimming pools and a fitness suite, a cinema, restaurants and public open spaces. Up to 750 jobs will be created in the scheme, which will be an extension of the hugely-successful Princesshay shopping area.
In the shorter term on Exeter Quay a new independent restaurant – Pizza Stein – is to be opened this spring in what was a disused nightclub.
Meanwhile areas of East Devon are the latest to benefit from super-fast broadband thanks to Connecting Devon and Somerset, a scheme funded by local authorities and private telecoms firms. This partnership has just installed its 1,000th fibre broadband ‘roadside cabinet’ to boost speeds to up to 80 megabytes a second.
