SALES NEWS: Chartered surveyors say region’s market is healthy
The latest data from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors shows that the south west’s housing market is performing more strongly than most other regions of the country.
RICS operates a range of measures to gauge the market. So for example the average number of sales achieved by its members in the south west over the past month is slightly higher than usual, while the stock of properties on sale is slightly lower than usual – combining to show prices edging up slightly.
RICS says properties at the higher end of the market, which have been slow to sell recently, may become more popular if there is clarity over property taxes and the wider economy after the result of the general election is known.
It says a priority for the next government, whatever form it takes, must be to increase the volume of house building.
