SALES NEWS: Houses near good schools command higher asking prices
The long summer holidays are over and the start of a new academic year is upon us. Many children will be starting new schools; a large proportion of them will have experienced a recent house move in order to place them in the desired catchment area.
Recent research by Lloyds based on Land Registry data confirms what we have all suspected, namely that homes near good schools sell for more. In fact, a property near a top state secondary school is likely to cost you over £20,000 more than the average house price. Homes near good schools sell for £268,000 compared to the average national house price of £247,000. The findings will do little to allay the concerns of those who believe that a good education is the preserve of the wealthiest members of the population.
