SALES NEWS: Sellers “must be on Rightmove and Zoopla”

Sellers must make sure their homes are advertised on the two main property portals, Rightmove and Zoopla.

That is the view of Investors Chronicle, a weekly personal finance magazine produced by the Financial Times.

It says Rightmove and Zoopla – the portals on which East of Exe promotes all of its stock of homes to sell and let – already dominate the housing market. It forecasts they will become even more important in the future as estate agents gradually reduce their advertising in local newspapers and traditional brochures.

The magazine says that OnTheMarket – a rival portal set up earlier this year – has a relatively small marketing budget and suffers “a major flaw” because it bans agents who use it from advertising on both Rightmove and Zoopla.
