Targets for new house building to be set later this year
The government will later this year announce targets setting out how many new homes should be built in each local authority area. The news, which applies across England and Wales, came in a government statement which also said:
- Councils should identify and designate more land for new homes.
- Developers should build more affordable homes within new-build schemes;
- Planning consent on land could lapse after two years if building does not start.
Exeter and most parts of Devon have seen a range of new homes constructed in recent years, including innovative designs emphasising energy efficiency, contemporary interiors, and a growing emphasis on semi-detached and detached houses rather than apartments.
