Wired Up – new ultra-fast broadband for Exeter
Exeter is to receive BT’s ‘Fibre First’ Openreach ultra-fast broadband. It’s only the ninth city in the UK to receive it, and all the others have been much larger – Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, London and Manchester. It means:
- current broadband access will expand from 96% of Exeter homes to 100%
- businesses will be offered a service up to 24 times faster than now;
- a new BT engineering school will open at Exeter Business Park.
The engineering school, to be opened next year, will train up to 450 recruits from across the south-west – another vote of confidence in Exeter’s booming economy, and the kind of investment that strengthens the local housing market too.
