Stamp Duty rise unlikely to deter buyers, say experts

31 October 2024 Latest News

One of the surprise announcements in the Budget was an increase in stamp duty for so-called ‘additional homes’ – that is, buy to let properties and holiday homes. The change announced by Rachel Reeves means:

  • stamp duty on these homes increases from 3% to 5%;
  • the change took place immediately after the Budget; and
  • there’s no change in stamp duty on any other type of home.

Industry experts predict that the increase, although disappointing to those wanting to buy such properties, would be unlikely to deter investors or those wanting holiday bolt holes in tourist locations.
