It may soon be easier and faster for home buyers to get a mortgage

The watchdog overseeing mortgages is proposing lenders should make applying for a loan easier and faster. The Financial Conduct Authority wants:

• more competition between mortgage finance firms;

• to make it easier for consumers to switch between lenders; and

• to make it simpler for borrowers to shorten the length of their mortgage.

The FCA is now consulting with individual lenders and hopes the new rules can be introduced before the end of 2025.
