The government’s statement that letting agents’ fees on tenants will be banned has received huge publicity – but in fact the exact details are still to be decided.
Firstly there will be a consultation process by the government, starting in the New Year and likely to last around two months; secondly, depending on how government responds to the consultation results, there may then be a new law which again will take time to agree.
So it is highly likely that the full extent of any ban, and the date on which it comes into effect, will not be known until well into next spring.
East of Exe charges one of the lowest ’s letting fees locally, for the cost involved in referencing, producing inventories and legal contracts (tenancy agreements) which the government are now considering banning.
